About SPPS

Mission Statement
Sts. Peter & Paul School is a Catholic co-educational preschool and elementary school serving students and striving to instill Christian values and attitudes. Our purpose is to provide, along with the parents, a comprehensive and challenging academic curriculum within a strong Catholic education, teaching students the message of Jesus, involving them in serving their community, developing a sense of unity, and leading them to worship and prayer.

School

History
Sts. Peter and Paul stands strong today, carrying with it a strong Catholic tradition. In 1874, the Benedictine Sisters arrived in Nauvoo opening the first school. The first school was purchased in 1918. This remained our educational facility until 1962 when we made our move to our newly built present building, housing grades 1-8. In 1970, we made the decision to end junior high and in 1998, we expanded, beginning our kindergarten and preschool classes.

Philosophy
As an academic community, we strive to develop the intellect of each student so that he/she will be actively involved in the learning process and able to make responsible choices now and in the future as a member of a family, community, nation and Church. Each student is helped to discover their own worth as a Catholic Christian and to learn and mature, spiritually, physically, socially and psychologically, according to their own God-given abilities and talents through prayer, teacher direction and example, individual work, and parental guidance and support.

Choosing Sts. Peter & Paul
We develop a respect in each child for the dignity and individuality of all people regardless of race, creed, sex or national origin. We respect the dignity and freedom of every child because each child has been created in the image and likeness of God. We develop in students a strong positive sense of self-worth by providing a friendly and supportive environment, We consistently evaluate and update academic programs and materials to ensure viability in today’s changing world. We teach stewardship – giving of time, talent and treasure – by a committed, concerned and fully certified staff.
