Mrs. Erika Smith

Bringing a uniquely compassionate background to our First Grade classroom, Mrs. Erika Smith is thrilled to be teaching at Sts. Peter and Paul. Before following a heartfelt calling to become an educator, she earned a degree in Psychology from Culver-Stockton College and spent over fifteen years working as a family counselor and advocate for children. This profound experience gave Mrs. Smith an incredible gift for understanding and supporting her students through any challenge. After earning her Illinois teaching certification, she taught preschool before finding her true home in first grade. A resident of Bowen, IL, family is at the center of her life. She and her husband are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, and they are overjoyed that both of their girls now attend SPPS! Deeply dedicated to her classroom, Mrs. Smith strives for excellence every single day to ensure her first graders absolutely thrive.

"I have spent years mentoring and teaching individuals of all ages; however, it was done in a different format.  I am excited to take a shift in the way I can teach and learn.  Children more than ever need love, discipline, structure, guidance, and faith.  I hope that the classroom is a safe spot for all the students to feel they can express their feelings and unique individual personalities as they learn and grow in their education and love for God.  Whether it is my first or tenth year of teaching, I know that I will always be learning with and for them as new discoveries and advancements evolve."-- Mrs. Erika Smith
